When you buy a big-name fragrance, you're paying for far more than what's inside. A good share of the price covers the brand itself: celebrity campaigns, glossy advertising, luxury packaging and a department-store counter.
None of that changes how the fragrance smells on your skin.
What actually makes a scent
Two things matter most: the blend of fragrance oils, and how concentrated it is. Eau de toilette usually sits around 8–10% fragrance oil. Eau de Parfum is stronger, and that's where X sits, at 20–25%.
More oil generally means a richer scent that carries further, which is why concentration matters more than the name on the box.
